Camara de musica

Jean-Robert Sedano and Solveig of Ory

Colegiale San Juan Bautista - Gijon - Asturias (Spain) from 16 to 26 January 1984

Memories ...

The installation of the "Music Room" of Gijon was a rather complex undertaking. The St. John Baptist colegiales near the port of Gijon was a beautiful place. She
no longer used for worship since long and the idea came to Gerard
Applancourt, director of the French Aliance of the city, inviting us to
transform into a giant soundstage.

Ramps photoelectric sounds generated by cutting the light beams in the aisles. A video camera placed on the upper corridor filming the paving of the center of the chapel.

It
was the first time that the computerized video device was implemented
on an Apple 2 provided with a video capture card DS-65 and dual card
sound synthesis Digital Music System "Mountain Computer",
16 tracks. The program was written in BASIC and Assembler Applesoft. Sixteen silver circles were painted on the ground and produce short tonal sequences when you put it. Ramps paths produced new sounds, besides the typical synthesized sounds. It was concrete sounds, bells recorded on small loops of magnetic tape. The

two tape reels turned on continuously, but the sound does not occur only in passing in front of the public ramps.

Two slide projectors equipped with rotating polarizing filters produced abstract images and moving. They did not change with the movement of spectators as the engines of filters were also controlled by the ramps. The arches of the chapel were illuminated in blue and a red laser beam across the church and through. He drew flexible forms with the sounds emitted in the central space.
