Virtual Reality Revisited with ArtFutura festival 2016

ArtFutura festival

Starting on the 28th of October, The ArtFutura festival is organized as a network where all participating cities share a common theme, catalog and audiovisual program.  More than 25 cities will participate with exhibitions, performances and conferences of this 27th edition oriented this year around the theme “Virtual Reality Revisited”.

Since January 1990, ArtFutura, the festival of Digital Culture and Creativity, has explored the most interesting projects and ideas that have come up on the international panorama of new media, interactive design, videogames and digital animation. Its activities include exhibitions, conferences, workshops, interactive installations and live performances.

Now in its 27th edition, ArtFutura will reflect on the perspective of all these years. The audiovisual program for ArtFutura 2016 will analyze the current creative contributions presenting the latest in 3D, viral, motion graphics and the new aesthetics.

Virtual Reality Revisited

Immersive Virtual Reality had its early beginnings in the early 60s, but it was in the 90s when it hit the mainstream, becoming extremely popular. In January 1990, during the first ArtFutura edition in Barcelona, the public was able to experience, for the first time in Europe, a Virtual Reality prototype. It was an interface presented by Eric Gullichsen from Autodesk, and Scott Fisher, from the NASA’s Ames Research Center, showing videos of his pioneering experiments in Virtual Reality.

ArtFutura is preparing a special program on this theme of the year. Virtual Reality is a collective human extension that will be as relevant as previous revolutions in communication, having a definitive impact in the transfer of knowledge.
