September 29th, 2016, Lumen Prize launches its fifth annual global tour, exhibiting the winners and shortlisted works in London, Shanghai, Leeds, New York City and Caerphilly Castle Wales. The tour will also include one-night Lumen Highlight events in London, Swansea and Cardiff.
The international award Lumen Prize also called Global Award & Tour for Digital Art, celebrates the power and the potential of new media art creations around the world. Launched in 2012 this initiative has disbursed nearly $45,000 in prize money, toured the world four times and staged over 30 shows, seminars, and events in more than 10 capital cities around the world from New York City to Shanghai, Athens to Amsterdam, Riga, Cardiff, or London. In collaboration with its academic partners, Lumen advances the understanding of digital art through seminars, artist talks, workshops and symposiums throughout its global tours.
“Lumenus has been designed to make collecting digitally created works of art as easy as possible and to provide opportunities for digital artists to sell their works to new audiences in a secure fashion,” says Lumen Prize Director & Founder, Carla Rapoport.
Following the close of the Call for Entries, all works are first judged by Lumen's International Selectors Committee, which is comprised of academics, past Lumen winners, gallerists, writers and curators. For 2016, the ISC will be headed by Foteini Aravani, Digital Curator of the Museum of London.
The ISC selects the Lumen Longlist which will be published online and opened for a vote for the People's Choice Award in late summer. This longlist is then judged by Lumen's Jury Panel who choose the shortlist plus the top cash prize winners. All works chosen for the shortlist - along with all winners - will form the 2016 Lumen Global Tour which will visit venues around the world from September 2016 to July 2017.
The People's Choice Award is now OPEN and can be seen here: lumenprize.com/online-gallery
